PAINTING STUDIO CHAOS MAKES WAY FOR CREATIVITY, STORAGE AND STYLE

A fresh start - setting up my new painting studio.

As many of you know I had been working from my Long Island City apartment. It was a darling little studio (little being the operative word). It was two steps from my bed and it was taking over! I would literally step out of bed and into the studio. To economize my space I raised the bed and pushed my flat files under it. The down side was that since I used my bed as a surface I would have to clear it off before climbing in at night.  The work was too close. The space was too confining. So, I moved.

I am happy to say that I have taken my art full time. With the move comes an extra room that is my new studio.  Now, I actually have room to work, a closet to store supplies and a door that I can close.

Can't wait to show you the big reveal!

PREPARE TO BE AMAZED.....

Jenny Andersen:

Nothing could have prepared me for Jenny Andersen's "Offerings" exhibit at the Bainbridge Island Art Museum.

Jenny Andersen's haunting, sublime figures evoke a sense of mystery. Referencing Greek and Italian art, she blends the figure and the natural world. Graceful and psychologically complex animals emerge from the human form. Jenny plays between the internal and external worlds. Her surfaces are seductive and each sculpture possesses a peaceful quality as if wrapped in a dream. They wait patiently for you to approach to reveal their story.

Go see for yourself!

Summer on Bainbridge Island!

Can't think of a more beautiful place to spend summer than Bainbridge Island, it’s just a short ferry ride from Seattle. The ferry coming into Winslow - heaven!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

A Scattering of Hearts for Valentine's Day!

I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with New York City.  I find it both captivating and frustrating.  But New Yorker’s never disappoint.
The other day I was walking along West 60th Street going to the Time Warner Building for my afternoon cup of joe when I stumbled upon these hearts made from ice (something there is no shortage in NYC at the moment).  Many people stopped to take photos and to be amazed.  So, Happy Valentine’s my dear friends – may you find wonder and enjoyment today on Valentine’s Day and throughout the year!

SNOW DAY - CELEBRATING THE BEAUTY OF SNOW

Blizzard Hercules hit the East Coast last night and today with howling winds and bitter cold.

I have to admit that I love snow, at least while it is falling and covering everything in a blanket of white.  It muffles the traffic and transforms the city into a beautiful and romantic wonderland.

To celebrate the first snow storm of 2014, here are snow inspired paintings, from Peter Brueghel to Camille Pissarro. Do you have a favorite?

As 2014 unfolds, follow along. Join my mailing list for the latest artwork, projects and special promotions (enter your email in the space to the right of this column). Cheers!
